CFMS LIBRARY.
Many of you may know that I have been asking for early Mineral Notes and News. They are the original CFMS Newsletters and are of historical interest.

At the Riverside Convention and Show in August, I was sitting at the Bulletin Editor's booth when John Sinkankas came by. I mentioned I was looking for early Mineral Notes and News and early memorabilia pertaining to the CFMS, when John mentioned that he had a great number of Gem and Mineral and Mineralogist magazines and we (CFMS) could have them if we would acknowledge the gift.

Upon returning home to La Mesa, I received a phone call from John saying he was serious, and when could I come and get them. Gordon and I immediately went to his home and scooped up all the magazines he has offered.

I contacted our President, Pat LaRue, and told her of our windfall. She enthusiastically endorsed the acceptance of the collection as a beginning of a reference library for the CFMS, and I wrote Mike Kokinos for guidance on a letter of acceptance. He responded immediately.

What has happened is this: The CFMS is establishing an historical reference library with the Sinkankas donation as the beginning. We ask YOU, the clubs of the Federation, to ask your members to look through their personal libraries and consider donating books, periodicals and state reference material to enhance this library. At present, the library will be housed in my home. In the future, I hope to find a home for all the reference library in a museum or other facility that will act as custodian while being able to use the reference material when needed.

REMEMBER, you will receive a letter of acknowledgment from the CFMS for tax purposes and we, the Federation, will receive a wonderful historical reference library.

I have a large, personal library of my own, which will eventually become part of this historical library. If you have books that would be appropriate, mineral, fossil, lapidary, and state publications, please contact me (please, no Rock and Gem or Lapidary Journals at this time).

There were lots of duplicate issues in the collection from John Sinkankas. At some time in the future, we'll make those duplicates known as well as any gaps of issues we need. If you have some we need and we can help you with completing your collection, I propose a swap of issues.
