YE OLD TIMERS MINERAL CLUB (YOTC) - What is it?
It is a social club recognized by, but not sponsored by, the American Federation of Mineralogical Societies.
The first meeting was held in February 1941. At that time there were 168 members from many states. At one time there were members from Germany, England, Canada, Australia, New Zealand as well as hundreds from the United States, including Alaska.
The goal is to establish an opportunity for oldsters of the mineral, gem and fossil collecting hobby to communicate with others of like interests.
Also to promote good fellowship through field trips, to support local shows and Federation shows.
Members must be 50 years old or older (only one of a couple must be over 50) and be interested in lapidary, collecting etc.
Dues are $8.00 a year, $10.00 per couple. The fiscal year begins July 1, so anyone paying in January, pays for a year and a half, or $12.00 ($15.00).
Official unofficial meetings can be held at any club shows, field trips or other hobby related get-together.
The president and/or vice president must attend all American Federation Shows.
Official meetings are held at Quartzsite, Snyder's Rock Pow Wow at Valley Springs, and any Federation Show.
Election of officers is every two years. Our own Ray Meisenheimer was president in 1993 and 1994. He is currently a Director. When we attended the American Federation Show in Tampa Bay, Florida, we were asked to escort bus loads of school children through the show, which we were happy to do.
If any one is interested, you may call me at (805)642-3155. I am Regional Vice President (RVP).
If you join you will receive a card to carry, a roster of members, and a bi-monthly newsletter. There are club badges and a very nice cook book which can be ordered from Arlene Schwemmer, 2040 Waterford Road, Sacramento, CA 95515. The price of the cook book is $4.50.
Florence Meisenheimer.
